About Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc.

We began operations in 1964 as an excavation company with the purchase of a small bulldozer and a backhoe. The business establishes a reputation for integrity and continued to grow with steady acquisitions of equipment. In 1973 Paul's son, Greg, graduated from Youngstown State University with a Degree in Civil Engineering, and began working for the company. Using his education to provide value-added services, and by demonstrating customer consciousness and team leadership, Greg was welcomed into full partner in the enterprise in 1975.

How We Do It

What do we mean by "integrity"?

We mean that we do what we say we'll do. We don't shoot out a low-ball quote, then delay while we try to up-sell you. We don't promise to do work and then not show up because we got a bigger job for more money in the meantime. While we want you to call us first for your loads of ready mixed concrete, we won't take an order knowing we'll miss the scheduled delivery and leave your crew sitting idle and unproductive. We won't cut out quality checks just because they take "too much" time.

This doesn't mean we're slow to change

Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. has been proud to adopt new methods and technologies early, study them carefully, train our people, and implement checks to make sure our process improvements are working as expected - and as advertised. The pace of change in this business has accelerated just like in any other. When we were first in business an electric adding machine and a slide rule were pretty much top of the line calculators. However, when calculators that could do trigonometry to 4 decimal places came along, we welcomed the advance; and when desktop workstations entered the scene, we jumped on it. It took a while to get used to computers, but when we saw how much more accurate our quotes were getting and how much cleaner they were printing we were sold.

We Get It Right the First Time

We're energized by what we do

When we move into a service or product line, we're usually pretty excited about it. While it's a tougher learning curve we face in jumping on a new technology, we find the effort taken to really know it forwards and backwards, and inside and out tend to make us active promoters. Whether it's a new batch control system for our ready mix concrete, a new instrument that improves the measurement and locating of stakes, or a laser guided control for the blades of our excavating equipment; we tackle the new methods with enthusiasm and work with them till we are certain we've got it right - this time, next time, every time.

"We" means "we"

Top-down and bottom-up, everyone at Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. has to work hard, work smart, and speak up for the good of the company and the people in the work crews. An "executive decision" isn't just for the executives. Our leadership team follows up for effective and thorough implementation of improved processes, carefully explaining what it's for, how to make it work and how to assess the effectiveness on quality and profitability. Our people have their share of complaints, comments and criticisms as well; and we listen to them, looking to put the best ideas into action. Simply put, we'd rather they brought great ideas to us than get discouraged, quit and take them to the competition.

Sound Construction

Sound construction is a function of materials and workmanship; and workmanship is increasingly a function of sophisticated instrumentation. There is probably no more important process in construction than maintaining accurate alignment. Without accurate planer, linear and angular measurements the details of construction can not be executed faithfully and structural defects are inevitable. The application of lasers, following "line of sight" to this purpose is natural, and vastly superior to traditional methods which are subject to variations in tension.
