Ready Mixed Concrete When You Need It

Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. batch plant ships ready mixed concrete to contractors for a variety of construction applications, including roads, driveways and parking lots; irrigation and storm water channels; building basements and foundations; as well as water reservoirs, heavy industrial machine bases, and concrete pre-casters of: manholes, catch basins and septic tanks.

Our plant and trucks are O.D.O.T. approved and our fleet of radio dispatched ready mixed concrete mixers give us a good measure of responsiveness to customer needs and often an ability to re-schedule when weather conditions demand. We have a 58 foot, 14 ton crane which we can use to lift a concrete bucket to the concrete contractor to pour into forms and a 42 foot long conveyor (maximum height 20 foot) generally used to transfer truckloads to forms inaccessible by truck due to wet ground or obstructions – all at a price approximately one third the cost of concrete pumping units.

Just as important as the equipment is the truck operator. We’ll work with your construction crew to place the concrete mixer to best advantage, saving time and effort and letting you operate more efficiently.

After 20 years in the excavating and construction trucking business, Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. decided to enter the full service ready mixed concrete business, building a batch plant in Rogers, Ohio. Ready mixed concrete is a fairly capital intensive business, so we carefully weighed the risks and requirements before committing to the investment. We have maintained good relationships with contractors and carefully consulted with them to find out how the other side of the business looks and what were the things ready mixed suppliers do right and wrong. It’s really remarkable how a reputation for integrity matters in things like these. One holdover from the excavating side of the business was important – keeping clean trucks and not letting materials from one load contaminate another.

Quality Ready Mix Concrete for Contractors by Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc.

Quality Control Is Critical

Quality Control is critical to the business and involves checks at every stage. Our in-house laboratory tests incoming materials: sand, limestone aggregates, gravel, Portland Cement and every other aspect of the mix to ensure industry specified size and chemistry. For example, we meet the following standards: ASTM C150 Type 1 Portland Cement, ASTM C-33 standard limestone and sand, occasionally ASTM C-989 GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag). Limestone aggregate are also O.D.O.T. (Ohio Department of Transportation) approved. The mix design (sometimes called formula or recipe) is monitored as the cement batching proceeds in accordance with ASTM C94 standards. Our MPAQ TouchBatch™ touch screen computerized batching system includes automatic moisture compensation for consistent load to load accuracy and yield. One key element to the system is the moisture microwave sensor, which is regularly calibrated by laboratory methods. In projects where there is time pressure, the placed concrete can be tested through test samples on our compression testing instrument. This is a convenient way to determine the compressive strength of the partially cured concrete so that forms can be removed and subsequent phases of a construction project can proceed.

Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. are not concrete contractors ourselves. However, we work for them and here's some counsel in finding a good one. It's always a good idea to ask for references from people you talk to and call them up. Ask about timeliness, whether repair work was needed (and if so, why), and whether there was full disclosure of all costs reasonably anticipated. When working with a concrete contractor, feel free to ask for advice. Play fair, and don't try to get too clever. They are in business to do installations, and while they are usually happy to help, they are not in business to provide a free design service. Thorough, fair and respectful inquiry and discussions are the best road to sound concrete construction projects.

Paul R. Lipp & Son, Inc. also batches to specialty mix designs to for special appearance and performance standards. If an exposed aggregate walkway is desired, we can substitute pea gravel for the limestone aggregate. Where increased tensile strength is desired we add Forta Corporation concrete reinforcing fibers, such as FORTA® ECONO-NET® and others in the Forta line of polypropellene filament materials of which comply with ASTM C-1116 standards. We also mix and deliver low strength mortar also called flowable fill for backfill of utility trenches in streets, or other applications where a non-settling, self-consolidating fill material that can later be readily excavated.
